We have classes in knitting and crochet for all levels of experience. Come join us!
Student Discounts: Students receive a non-transferable 10% storewide discount upon registering for class.
Discount is valid on all purchases through the last day of class; please remind cashier of your class enrollment.

Registration: Class fees must be paid in full at sign-up to reserve your space. You can register at the shop or by phone
at (503)439-3316 with a credit card.
Class Size & Etiquette: Maximum class size is 8 students. Classes with fewer than 3 students may be cancelled and a
refund will be issued. Please purchase class materials prior to the start of class. Cell phone ringers should be set to silent
and any calls should be taken away from the class area.
Cancellations: You may cancel up to one week before your class for a full refund. If you must cancel later we won’t
issue a refund unless we are able to fill your spot from a waiting list. You are welcome to send a friend in your place.
Private Instruction & Custom Classes
Class times don’t fit your schedule? Need help on a specific project? Have a group of friends wanting to learn the same
technique? We’re happy to set you up with your own private knit or crochet instructor. Great for kids, too.
Hourly fee: $20.00 for one person or $30.00 for two people. Group pricing available. Call the shop to make arrangements.
Getting Started
Knitting Basics with Elaine Bueffel
In this three session class you’ll learn all the basics: casting on, the knit and
purl stitches, binding off, yarn and needle selection and more. You’ll work on
a cute sampler scarf that includes garter stitch, stockinette, ribbing and seed
stitch. You’ll also learn how to diagnose and correct mistakes. Come get your
knit on! Class fee: $45.00 + materials

Knitting Beyond the Basics with Trish Mitberg
Ready for a hat? Cabled scarf? Baby booties? You name it! This class will help
increase your skills and build your confidence as you work on the project of
your choice. You’ll learn how to follow a pattern, read your stitches, correct
mistakes and more. Ability to knit and purl required. Class fee: $45.00 +
materials

Crochet Basics: Retro-Chic Potholders with Darla J. Fanton
All skill levels welcome! Those brightly colored potholders and dishcloths
your great aunt used to make are back. Advance your skills or learn the basics
while you work on a project to match your skill level. We’ll cover the chain,
single crochet, double crochet, changing colors and following instructions.
Intermediate students can tackle Darla’s more complicated post stitch design.

Learn to Crochet with Darla J. Fanton
Crochet is showing up everywhere these days ... grab a hook and
join in! Darla will show you how to hold a hook, tension your yarn, and work
the basic elements of crochet, the chain and single crochet. You’ll create a
small drawstring pouch just right for holding your ipod, cell phone or other
small treasures. Class fee: $25.00 + materials

Projects for All
Mukluk Slippers with Trish Mitberg
Make them tall or short! These wonderful slipper socks will teach you lots of
tricks including short-row shaping, increasing, decreasing and seaming. They’re
worked in the round from the bottoms up using double pointed needles or the
magic loop method. Class fee: $35.00 + materials
Tuesdays, 1/10 & 1/17, 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Classic Mittens with Stephanie Engle
These cozy mittens are knit in the round using your choice of double pointed
needles or the magic loop technique. If you aren’t familiar with magic loop,
Stephanie will show you how it’s done. Using kettle-dyed Manos Maxima,
you’ll also learn how to work an unusual thumb gusset. Previous experience
knitting in the round required. Class fee: $35.00 + materials

Knooking with Darla J. Fanton
Have you knooked yet? Knooking is a method of knitting with a crochet hook.
If you’d like to make those fun ruffled scarves but can’t figure out how to
crochet with netted yarns, knooking is for you! You’re not using your hook to
mimic the look of knit stitches ... you’re actually knitting with a crochet hook!
Even if you’ve never crocheted or knit before, you can learn how to knook.

Phoncible Hat with Stephanie Engle
This adorable slouchy cap is a great template for learning the basics of color
knitting. First you’ll learn how to carry a different colored yarn in each hand
while you work the stranded band. Then you’ll learn how to make stripes
using the “jogless jog” method while you work the body of the hat. Ability to
knit in the round with circular and double pointed needles required.

Rosa’s Sleeveless Cardi-Pullover with Kim Winter
Think you’re ready to knit a sweater? This beautiful and stylish tunic works up
in a snap! Rosa is knit in one piece from the top down using your choice of
yarn, from worsted to bulky. We’ll cover gauge, sizing, circular knitting and
shaping. More advanced knitters have options for sleeves and a finished seam
cast-on. Everyone will appreciate the ability to try on as you knit for the

Bavarian Crochet with Darla J. Fanton
This intriguing two-round stitch pattern creates a textured color overlap that
beautifully blends most any color combination in harmony. As a bonus, the
final round creates a scalloped edging– no further border needed. You can
create squares of any size, plus Darla will share a technique to create
rectangles. Specific skills covered include working post stitches and clusters.
Students should be comfortable with basic crochet stitches.

Make One: Snuggly Headband with Nancy Hinsch
Based on a store-bought version brought in by one of Nancy’s students, this
cute tapered headband will keep your ears warm and your hair sassy. Better
yet, it’s the perfect project for learning how to work invisible right and left-
leaning make one increases (without holes), plus k2tog and ssk decreases. We’
ll also practice ribbing, attaching a button, and an optional flower
embellishment. Class fee: $25.00 + materials

Wisp with Christina Peters
Take your lace knitting to the next level. When you’re finished with this wispy
scarf you’ll be more confident knitting lace patterns that are worked on both
sides of the work without a resting row. Christina will provide tips for casting
on, lifelines, correcting mistakes and blocking. Designed by Cheryl Niamath
and published on knitty.com. Ability to work yarnovers and k2tog stitches
required. Class fee: $35.00 + materials

Ysolda’s Ripley Hat with Tanya Patterson
Leave it to indie designer Ysolda Teague to come up with an adorable hat
design that’s anything but basic. This perfect slouchy hat features knitted side
pleats so that the slouch stays in place. You’ll learn how to work a provisional
cast-on and the unusual pleating stitch. Suitable for knitters who are
comfortable with circular knitting and double pointed needles.

Bobble Exploration with Christina Peters
In this technique class you’ll learn various methods for adding three
dimensional design elements to your knitting including bobbles, nups, Noppen
and Moushkys. These puffy stitches are fun to knit and mix ‘n match in your
projects. Class fee: $25.00 + materials

Felted Bowls on the Magic Loop with Trish Mitberg
Magic loop is a technique for knitting in the round using one extra long
circular needle. In this class you’ll learn the technique while you knit a bowl
to be felted at home in your washing machine. Suitable for beginners and
advanced knitters, magic loop can replace double points in any circular knitting
project– socks, sleeves, even hats. Plus, the felted bowls are irresistibly funky
and fun! Class fee: $25.00 + materials

Knitting a Log Cabin with Tanya Patterson
Want to play with color? Inspired by Log Cabin quilting motifs, these brilliant
blocks are knit out-ward from a center square by picking up stitches and
“building” rounds of garter stitch strips. Make one large block, or combine
smaller blocks to make a quilt-type afghan. You’ll get lots of practice picking
up and binding off stitches, turning your work, and starting new colors.

Tunisian Bonne Bouche Bag with Darla J. Fanton
Tunisian is sometimes called the link between knit and crochet as it contains
aspects of both with intriguing properties all its own. In this class you’ll learn
to work Tunisian simple and purl stitches in the round with chunky yarn. In a
few hours you’ll have a sweet little bag and a brand new skill. No previous
crochet experience required, although knowing how to crochet is a chain is
plus. Class fee: $25.00 + materials

Finishing Workshop with Nancy Hinsch
In this comprehensive workshop, blue-ribbon winner Nancy Hinsch will
demonstrate a variety of blocking techniques, show you how to shape and join
a short row shoulder, teach you how to make invisible seams, and more.

Up Copper River with Stephanie Engle
So you already know how to work a charted Fair Isle pattern ...what’s next? In
this class Stephanie will show you how to use the Copper River Hat pattern as
an artistic template to design your own one-of-a-kind creation. You’ll learn
how to evaluate stitch counts, substitute and/or create different stitch motifs,
and select appropriate colors for value and contrast.

Brandywine Falls with Kim Winter
Designer Robin Ulrich’s stunning worsted weight wrap features an unusual
smocking stitch framed by layers of cascading scallops. In the first class we’ll
learn how to work the scallop pattern with options for a rolled or i-cord edge.
After a two week break for knitting, we’ll continue with the smocking stitch.
Designed for the intermediate knitter. PDF pattern available through Knitting

Mastering Provisional Cast Ons with Christina Peters
A provisional cast on keeps a group of stitches temporarily “live” on a piece
of waste yarn. We’ll explore several techniques including the EZ method,
working into the back of a crochet chain, and a variation of the crochet chain
method. Then we’ll work on picking the stitches back up and repositioning
them correctly. Class fee: $25.00

Entrelac Scarf with Trish Mitberg
This unusual technique results in a knitted fabric that looks almost woven.
Especially brilliant in self-striping yarns, entrelac is mesmerizing to knit and
keeps your brain active. It can be used in afghans, shawls, hats, and more.
Trish will share tips while you make this fun scarf from the website Freckles
& Purls. Class fee: $35.00 + materials

First Socks on Double Pointed Needles with Christina Peters
Learn the traditional method of knitting socks from the cuff down on double
pointed needles. You’ll learn all the steps including turning the heel, picking
up the gusset, and grafting the toe with Kitchener stitch. If you can
confidently knit and purl, you’re ready for socks! Class fee: $50.00 + materials

Numbers for Knitters with Tanya Patterson
Increase your knitting IQ! Tanya will show you how to read your gauge
swatches, correct any gauge discrepancies, and demystify why gauge matters so
much. We’ll also learn how to estimate yardage for a project, convert meters
to yards, determine yardage left on a partial ball of yarn, and look at US vs.
metric needle sizes. Class fee: $25.00
